Dinosaurs are fascinating, especially once you consider that these big creatures walked the same Earth that we are living on today. In the past, there have been a lot of books and videos produced to feed this fascination, with a lot of them aimed at children specifically. Now, with the iPad, it’s there is a few apps that have been produced to take advantage of this. One of then, Inside the World of Dinosaurs, is an interactive encyclopaedia, available for the iPad.

Content wise, you cannot fault the app. With pictures, moving models, timelines, articles and videos, it really has got it all. To be exact, it’s packed full of 60 models of dinosaurs, 310 interactive 3D models, 84 videos, 60 sounds and over 200 pages of fully researched information. To top it all off, it’s got over 5 hours of narration from Stephen Fry. You might initially tend to browse through all of the dinosaurs, but the amazing content in this app will draw you in and you won’t want to put it down. It’s simply one of the best apps, in terms of content, that is currently available in the App Store.

The app is incredibly easy to use, as it takes no effort to browse through and take in all of the fabulous content. Navigation is a breeze, with even the small touches taken into consideration, which takes this app up to the next level. An example of this attention to detail is when the app automatically moves onto the next dinosaur once the narration for one has finished, making it the perfect app for children, as they won’t feel the need to bother you as much.

When looking at the app for the first time, you might think that it’s expensive. It’s certainly a higher price than we are used to paying for an iPad app nowadays, but it’s worth every penny. This is because it’s so high quality and certainly the best app available in it’s category. Priced comparably to a book, it gets even better when you consider that this has so much more to offer, with all of the interactive features such as narration. Inside the World of Dinosaurs has got enough content to last and it gets better value the further you get into it.

For the most part, especially feature wise, the app is perfect. It’s got everything you could ever need and is certainly the most complete dinosaur encyclopaedia available, even without the interactive features. However, if there was one complaint, albeit very small, it would be that the narration doesn’t always match up with the text, but this doesn’t affect the app . The fact that this is the only complaint, and that it’s very small shows how good this app really is.

Overall, this is one of the best apps that is currently available on the iPad. It’s perfect for everybody, children and adults alike, and it really is the ultimate dinosaur app. Even at this price, it’s a steal, and it’s something that everyone should own, as it’s perfect to show off the capabilities of the iPad.
