Relationship

It’s difficult to keep track of everything when running a small business, so it’s much easier to have some software to help you. Relationship is able to help you manage projects, tasks, contacts etc. It provides a great way to manage clients in a native Mac app for most businesses, especially a lawyer, designer or surveyor. There are a lot of alternatives to Jumsoft’s software, such as Daylite, however most of them cost a lot more. Even so, it’s important that the app is still good enough to do the job.

Relationship is packed with all of the features you would expect in a business management package, with contacts, projects, tasks, events, emails, documents, bookmarks and sticky notes all rolled into one app. Each one of the tools works well, and ti’s great to see that you can link everything together. This means that you can link a document, project, stick note, bookmark and events all to one contact. This makes it ideal for any small business owner, as everything can be managed effectively, and most importantly, easily. Each feature isn’t always as fully featured as the native apps provided by Apple, but they still have everything you need, it’s just the extra polish that is sometimes missing.

Jumsoft is well known for a clean interface, that provides all of the options that you need, while still being easy to use, and this is the case for Relationship as well. You get a navigation bar that is set out well, making it quick and easy to get to the most important places and then an extra two or three columns of data depending on what you are looking at. In business, the last thing you want to do is waste time, so it’s great to see that when using this app, it doesn’t take a long time to get the job done. Set-up doesn’t take very long, and maintaining the projects and other data as you run the business also takes minimal effort. Best of all though, it’s a joy to use. There are a lot of things you might not want to do at work, but using this software certainly won’t be one of them.

While the price might be expensive considering we are all used to the low prices on the iTunes App Store, Relationship is reasonably priced for the Mac App Store. At the same time, it’s amazing value for money compared to similar apps. Most of them charge a monthly fee, or even per user, so having this app available at a one-off cost makes it really attractive. It might not be as powerful as the alternatives, but the lower cost certainly makes up for that.

While the app works as expected, with each feature working well, the main problem is that Relationship doesn’t really bring any massive new features together, instead just combining the functions of various other apps into one. While this still brings a massive improvement to any business owner’s life, it’s not going to massively change it. I would also prefer if it sticked to some of the native apps instead of trying to integrate everything into the app, especially in regards to a web browser or email. It would also be nice to see support for OS X Lion, such as Full Screen.

Overall, the app is great to use and is certainly a great way to organise everything. Any small business owner will find it useful, and the price is fantastic value for money. It might just copy the features of native apps, but with the ability to link everything together into one project, it’s amazing.
