Morris Lessmore has evolved from an award-winning short film into a hybrid app that combines a storybook and a game, while adding in a bit of animation. The app tells the story of a man who is swept away in a storm and having all of his possessions disappear. He’s introduced to books and soon falls in love with them. As the story goes on, the app is full of games and beautiful animation.

It’s difficult to find a new story that will become a classic, as most become boring after being read a few times. Yet, this is an instant classic. It’s great to read and will never get boring. When you read it, it’s obvious to see why the short film won an award. The words, the animation and the narrator go hand-in-hand, working perfectly together creating a fabulous experience.

Every single page involves some type of interaction, which is a great way to get the reader involved. These range from playing the piano, colouring or piecing together a jigsaw. It works well with the story and fortunately doesn’t feel forced into it. It’s also nice how the app will guide you, so even if you don’t know what to do, the app will help you. The app is already a delight to the imagination and senses, but the games add another element to it.

The visuals are breathtaking, looking brilliant on the iPad’s screen. Combined with the animation and the mini-games, the presentation in this app is superb. Not only that, but the navigation is brilliant as well, as you only need to swipe or use the menu to change the settings. While there are no instructions, anybody will be able to use it with no problems. It’s also great that the developers have remembered to add the essential features that are often overlooked, as you can resume the app from where you left off.

It’s well suited to children as it’s easy to use while also being incredibly interactive and exciting. Children won’t want to put it down. Get used to seeing your iPad experiencing the adventures of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Fortunately, this isn’t a story that you will get tired of reading, as it’s really good. Even if you do, the iPad does a great job of telling it for you. While this is mainly aimed at children, adults will love it to. The animation is just something you need to experience as it’s a joy to behold and a great example of what apps should be like. With this in mind, it’s great of everyone of all ages.

While the app might be more expensive than most apps in the App Store, it’s still much cheaper than most storybooks, while being much better at the same time. It’s the perfect app, and £2.99 is a small price to pay for perfection, yet alone something you will be reading to your children over and over again.

Overall, this is a truly magnificent app, with no other story book app coming close. It’s a great experience and a masterpiece is the only way to describe it. If there is one app that would make the iPad shine, it would be this. It might be quite expensive for a storybook, but it’s worth every single penny. Buy it, you won’t regret it.
