The World Factbook for iPad

It’s always handy to have information about countries from around the world with you, especially if you’re a student, traveller or somebody who needs to stay informed. Taking the data from the reliable CIA World Factbook, you can access a lot of information including maps and economic figures.

The information that is provided is excellent, and with everything included it’s safe to say that this is the most complete information source for the iPad. It manages to combine the jobs of various different apps into one, with maps for almost every part of the world included and the various figures that the CIA database contains as well. It’s very interesting just to browse the app to find out different things about places you know very little about. One thing that I love about the CIA database is the ranking lists of things such as GDP, and it’s great to see this recreated in the app. In addition, with the information updated at least once a month, you can’t lose.

With everything built in, you can use it without a data connection. This means that it is available everywhere, on the tube, waiting in a restaurant or if you’re at school. At the same time, this is also perfect because it means that data loads quickly and you don’t need to keep on downloading it each time you want to use it. In addition, with the information updated at least once a month, you can’t lose.

Using the CIA World Factbook on a computer is difficult, yet alone on a tablet, which means if you do want to view the data, you are best buying this app. It’s easy to use and works really well. You can navigate to what you want easily and quickly without a fuss. You don’t need to spend hours trying to find the population of Peru. While the design of the app, in terms of colour scheme and layout might not be the best, it’s not the worst I’ve seen and this doesn’t get in the way of the content and navigation.

Compared to similar apps, this is priced really well. It’s cheaper while still including the same amount of information. In some ways, it leads the other apps, with the unique country comparison pages, but in other ways, such as the design, it falls behind. However, with an app like this, it’s the information that counts, so since it’s cheaper and includes more, this might be the app to get. As a plus, it’s also updated more, which could alone be a reason to chose this over the competition.

While this has got most things, if there was one thing that I would like to see improved it would be the support for other apps. This could include saving the information to “Instapaper”, to better printer support by adding apps such as “Printer Pro”.

Overall, this is a fantastic way to view the CIA World Factbook on the iPad. The price is great and it’s got all the information you could ever need. If you’re looking for a world fact app, it’s definitely worth considering this.
